Wildlife & The Countryside

Time spent beside water is not only a break from day to day life but a chance to immerse yourself into nature. What goes on under the water is a mystery to most of us and something we would all like to understand better, guided as it is by changing water colour, temperature, wind and pressure But above the water surface there is much to see, hear and smell.

Anglers are one of the guardians of the countryside and are expected by the club to treat the countryside and the wildlife surrounding our waters with the greatest respect. We work closely with the Environment Agency, Natural England, Angling Trust and Rivers Trust to ensure our countryside is protected and enhanced and as a result, our diverse waters are great places to experience all the nature that the south of England has to offer.

Expect to see Kingfishers, Buzzards, Water Snakes, Dormice and more when out on our waters. Sometimes we receive visitors we would rather not have such as Cormorants and Mink. We need to know when such species are spotted as they can damage our fish stocks. It’s not easy to stop them coming but we can mitigate against them and provide protective habitats for the fish.
